hi, i am running xp pro sp2, and was wondering what the latest experts'
view was on recommended Services settings. (in admin tools, services).
the default mode for most of these from xp seems to be automatic
startup, but there are some we know we shouldnt leave that way:
messenger, alerter, network DDE, etc. but i would greatly appreciate
someone's view on all of these...
black viper used to have a pretty good website on his recommended
settings, but i havent seen this around for a couple of years now. any
thoughts greatly appreciated.
specifically, am trying to figure out the best settings for
asp.net
webclient
netlogon
i have a LAN connection from a home computer, firewalled, etc that just
connects my laptop to the internet and that's it. there is no
networking or funky server connections other than a separate VPN
connection to my work's server, so that if I choose to log on using
that secure connection, i can access work email and a drive off of
their server.
i have to choose this VPN connection as a separate network connection
from my LAN, obviously, but i dont know what networking Services I need
to have for this type of access that I wouldnt have to have turned on
Automatic if I were just using a regular LAN connection for personal
use (ie terminal server, remote access, secondary logon)
***Would appreciate _specific_ suggestions to this VPN issue listed
above rather than just a link to a site that lists general settings.
thank you in advance for your help
