LAN Network with Internet access causes bogus startup

Hi,

We have two computers connected directly by an ethernet link :
- computer A (Windows XP pro SP2) is connected to internet via an ADSL modem
- computer B (Windows XP home SP2) connects to internet via computer A
both share documents through the network.

Since I installed the network, computer A is having troubles (at first these
problems occured occasionnaly, but after a few days they happen all the time)
:

Problem A.1 - when awakening from "deep sleep" the computer freezes (either
with a black screen or with the background image of the user). Impossible to
reboot, the only solution is to switch off the power !

Problem A.2 - when starting, most of the services do not start (tray almost
empty). Then I have to exit the session and reopen it : then it's OK (all the
services start correctly)

Problem B.1 - Having thus restarted computer A, the network connection
appear "limited" in computer B (indeed the internet connection does not
appear anymore). I have to "repair the connection" before I can connect to
internet on B.

Having done all these procedures, I can use normally the network and access
Internet on both computers... until next restart.

All of this is both anoying and worrying : will this "solutions" last or
something worse will happen ?

Note 1 : I also tried to configure the Internet connection on B, rather than
A, but this provoked trouble on computer B (especially on the limited user :
something like problem A.2, and the Internet connection worked only once !),
even without any network connection to A.

Note 2 : I tried to restart computer A having unplugged the network. The
first time the computer started correctly. But when trying another time the
problems A.1 and A.2 reappeared.

Note 3 : previously I had connected computer B to another computer C (with
win XP home) (LAN only, no Internet) : it worked for a few days but became
anavailable quicky.

I hope you can help with these LAN/startup difficulties

Thanks a lot

Thanks but I'd rather find a solution that make this windows LAN work the way
it should.
Besides I'm not sure this would solve the startup problem since there would
still be an Ethernet connexion to the computer.

Or does your answer means that LAN with XP is notoriously bogus ?

The internet router IS the better solution. With ICS, you are causing
more problems. With a router, you have some more security since you
have the router in between your PCs and your Internet access.
