Recognizing Hardware on Start-up

I removed an AMR Modem and now at every start up, XP states it has found new
hardware but can't install it. It then wants to go through the install
process. There is no modem to remove in the control panel and I've turned
off the onchip modem in the BIOS settings.

When you get the "found new hardware" dialog, does it have the option not to try to
install again that you can put a checkmark in?
