Modem can not be removed

Some time ago I have changed my broadband connection from USB Modem to a
Router. Every time I switch on I get the error message Event ID 7000 in the
event viewer as follows:
"Intel AnyPoint 3240 USB Model firmware loader failed to start ..."

It is not listed in the hardware Device Manager. It is listed in the
Registry Local Machine under Legacy_P32Load and under Services P32 Load.

How can I remove the references to this modem? Is it safe to delete the
complete lines?

I doubt whether the registry editor will allow you to delete these
entries. In any case, deletion would probably be an unsafe procedure.
However, you could try the following workaround, which might resolve
your problem.

Firstly, create a Restore Point (just in case).

Then, visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315539 and follow the
instructions to "Show hidden devices in Device Manager".

Open Device Manager (via Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device
Manager) and click on View, followed by "Show hidden devices".

Scroll down to the entry for the disconnected USB modem. Right click on
the entry for the modem and select the uninstall option.

Uninstallation of the device should safely remove all related references
from the registry.

Whilst you are in Device Manager (with hidden devices revealed), you
might also want to other uninstall other obsolete devices. But if in
doubt, leave well alone.

Thanks for useful information. I located a reference with a yellow mark and
deleted it. But I still get the same error.

Things you can do...
See if the driver is listed in "add or remove programs" If you see it, you
should remove it.
If it's not listed there then connect the modem again. Let windows identify
your hardware and enable it for use.
Next, go into device manager and locate your modem. Right click on it and
select 'uninstall'. This should be done before you actually remove any
hardware from your computer so that the drivers/software don't try to load a
non-existing device. Then remove your modem from your computer. That should
do it.
Hope this helps.
