Recent problem: Outlook 2002 preview pane - header display

I have been using Outlook 2002 in this machine for 4+ years. In the last few
weeks the portion of the display between the preview pane and the message
list the shows the To, From, Subject, CC and Attachments has been having a
variety of weird problems that are not consistent.

For example:
- attachments may not be shown (but if I open the email they are there)
- a small message in a yellow box says that the the information cannot be
displayed
- (more rare) the size of the this basic header region is huge and empty
leaving virtually no space to display the message.

Clicking on another message sometimes resolves the problem, but sometimes not.

I'm suspecting either a security update broke something. Does anyone else
see these issues?

Hi Ian--

I am having the exact same problem--did you ever find out what the issue was? The people at microsoft seem to have no clue, and I am getting very frustrated.

Best,

Hi Jen,

Sorry, no I did not find an answer. However, I did get a new PC with Outlook
2007, so the problem (expensively) went away for me.

My guess is that it is related to a flawed security update that addressed
risks associated with attachments and previewing e-mails. Perhaps MS can
identify updates of this type and you can try uninstalling them.

For what is it worth, my PST files were getting pretty big (one was 800MB;
the other 200MB). Perhaps that contributed to the issue, and might explain
why it does not show up in most cases.

Good luck with it - hopefully we'll get more input via this thread.
