Receiving only some of the incoming messages.

I am setting up Vista email in a new computer bought a few days ago. The
software came with the machine, version 6.0.6000.16386
(vista_rtm.061101-2205).

I can send email without problems, but I receive only some of the incoming
messages. . The new machine is connected to a desl modem through a Lynksys
wireless router. Another, checked-out machine is connected to the same modem
in parallel, via an Ethernet cable. Looking at the old machine I can see what
reaches the modem, and less than half of them does not make it to the new
machine.

I cannot see how the wireless connection could be selective in such a
fashion. I checked the email settings many times (server names, port numbers,
SSL's set, etc) and I cannot see anything wrong.

I have Norton Internet Security, turned on.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Uninstall Norton, use their debris removal tool to get rid of the crud the
uninstaller leaves behind, then custom re-install Norton without any of it's
email scanning services. See if the problem persists.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

It isn't clear to me whether you are checking the same mail account from
two different computers. If so, whichever one checks first will make those
emails unavailable for the other machine. You would need to configure
both computers to leave a copy of messages on the server.

Gary,
Your diagnosis was right on the money, and so was the fix you suggested. I
now receive all messages on both computers.
I am very grateful. Thank you!!

Hal,
Thank you for making a suggestion, but the problem was not caused by Norton.
See post by Gary for the correct diagnosis.

Just wait. It often takes months for a Norton antivirus program to
cause problems in Windows Mail, but you can expect some eventually.
