Receive messages disappearing

Gurus,
Need help. Using Outlook 2003, part of Small Business Edition Office.
Occationally, I see emails received into my inbox for a brief second then
they dissappear. I have no rules or alerts set up. I can receive other emails
from the same senders. The disappearing messages are not going to a personal
folder nor to the deleted folder. I do not find them when I search for the
email with advanced find. Does anyone have any ideas?

Is Outlook set to permanently delete Junk email?

No, and the dissapearing emails do not go to the Junk email folder either...
I am stumped.

ditto. I've seen it where some messages can get delivered "behind" the set
of Personal Folders (not into a folder but still to the Persoanl Folders)
but they are usually located with a search.
