reading from CD's Zip

I have recently recovered from a virus and need to reload
my backup data. When I try to open backup data (from CD
or the PC it is saying I cannot open as it can't find the
application it was saved in. Data is from word, excel,
and the internet. I suspect I'm missing something in the
PC since everything was erased with the recovery. Any
ideas?
