I have 2 PC's connected with Ethernet hub using XP Professional ICS with
manually assigned IP. PC 2 is running XP Home. Connection to Internet is
thru 56k dial up.

I was going to try using a web accelerator Proxyconn to increase web page
loading.

Will the web accelerators work with ICS?

Here's a quote from http://www.proxyconn.com/faq.asp

Q: We are using a shared Internet connection. Where should we
install Proxyconn Accelerator?

A. Install it on every computer that you wish to accelerate. You do
not need to install Proxyconn Accelerator on the machine that
serves only as a gateway.

Q. May I use Proxyconn on multiple machines?

A. You need a separate account for every PC, using
Proxyconn Service.

So it appears that you can use Proxyconn on each client computer.
It's not clear to me whether you can install Proxyconn on the ICS
(gateway) machine itself. Since Proxyconn offers a free 7-day trial,
you can try it and find out at no risk.
