I have a problem with a printer on a Windows 2003 server, running
terminal services.

Whenever anyone tries to print to it, they get an "access denied"
error.

Whenever I log on administratively to the server, and try to view the
properties of that installed printer I get an access denied error. I
can't even delete, rename, or remove the share on that printer. No
matter what I try to do I get that error. Even if I logon to the local
administrator account. I've restarted the print spooler service and
the same thing happens.

The printer is called "Plain".
I created a new installation on the same server, pointing to the same
printer, using the same print drivers and the same TCP-IP printer
port, and called it "Plain-II".

"Plain-II" works fine. But I can't delete "Plain"

They should be identical in every way but somehow I am locked out of
"Plain"

The printer is an HP LaserJet 2430 tn.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I might delete the old installation
on the server?
I'm guessing something has gotten corrupted, but to be honest I am at
a lost.

I'd like to simply delete "Plain" and rename "Plain-II" but I can't
even do that due to the "access denied" error.

Someone may have a more elegant solution, but I'd be doing some crawling
through HKLM\System and finding/deleting the printer in the registry.

To add to Lanwench's post, check permissions on the registry keys and on
the printer itself, possibly all but the System may have had their
permissions revoked.
