I recently had trouble with a virus which led to me having to use system
restore. When system restore restarted my computer i was shown a message
saying important files needed to be re installed. I placed an XP disc in the
drive and instead of replacing the file required [which was <windows
root>\system32\hal.dll] XP was completely rebooted. Now, this wouldn't have
been a problem except it looks as though all the files i had on the computer
before the reboot are still one the hard drive, i have only half capacity
when i look at my hard drive's properties, but i can't find out WHERE they
all are.
can anyone help me out here?

what do you mean actually? you mean your files are missing, or just that you
have half the HDD capacity?
