Re-Installing Internet Explorer

I recently ran a registry cleaner on my XPpro system. It boots MUCH
faster now but for some reason, Internet Explorer wont run quite
right. It appears to run fine for most browsing but when I go to one
of the sites our family uses frequently (www.americangreetings.com),
the card can't be displayed for editing within IE6

I've looked in my control panel for some means of un-installing IE6,
tried dumping the cache, etc and even tried downloading a new copy of
IE6 and installing over the top of the old one.

My question, who out there as experience with 'restoring' Internet
Explorer? I've tried running utilities that dump the cache, free up
hard drive space and so on - still no luck.

On the American Greetings site, IE tries to open up a separate window
to show the card but won't do it. I need some sort of repair tool
obviously (short of uninstalling and re-installing).

Your problem is that you used a so-called registry cleaner. These are
not only unnecessary, they frequently cause problems, as you are
unfortunately finding out.

Since no one knows exactly what your registry cleaner did it's hard to
give specific advice without taking a lucky guess. If your cleaner has
an undo function, undo the changes you made. Otherwise, you may get
relief if you restore your system to a point in time just before you
used your registry cleaner.

The problems caused by registry cleaners are well known. Instead, you
should follow Smokey the Bear's advice: Don't play with matches.

IE 6 cannot be uninstalled from Windows XP.

if memory serves me right when you attempt to uninstall IE from add/remove
in the control panel it gives the option of repair reinstall.

1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.

You can Reset the web settings under programs Tab then click on Reset web
settings button, reboot and see if it will help.
