Re-Installing IE6

Mark

I am trying to reinstall IE6 in Windows XP. I get the
error message "The software you are trying to install has
not passed Windows logo testing". I found the knowledge
base article - 828031 advising to remove security patch
KB823559 to workaround this problem. I have done this but
still get the error and IE6 will not install.

Any suggestions?

I am trying to re-install IE because of problems I'm
having with some websites. I have 2 laptops with the
same configurations & they can get to the sites. On this
one machine IE loads the page & then gives me an error
that it can't open the Internet site & that the operation
will be aborted. I click OK & IE gives me the Page
cannot be displayed page. I've tried the repair & it
didn't work & I would like to avoid re-installing Windows
XP if possible.

Check your system for "hijackware".

HijackThis (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip) is the
preferred tool to use these days. It will help to both identify and remove
any hijackware/spyware. **Post your files to

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.[/QUOTE]

Had the same problem. Tried everything but didn't work.
So I re-installed WinXP Pro. Had to reactivate it (by
phone)and finally IE was working again. I really don't
know what happened.
I then checked back to Windows update and found 41(!)
critical updates. To keep it short I downloaded WinXP SP1
in order to save time and not install all updates but
after reboot IE stopped working again (I was getting Page
cannot displayed or DNS server on all sites). So I removed
SP1 and now everything's working again.
I think Im going to install security update one by one and
see what could be wrong.
Hope this help.

I tried it all & my system is clean & I still can't re-
install IE6. How is there no work-around for this
problem? It just seems to me that so many people are
having this same problem, and I find it hard to believe
that there is no resolution for this yet.

After installing/reinstalling Win XP, make certain that:

- You've activated WinXP's built-in firewall or a third-party application
before going online for any reason.

- You're *fully* up-to-date at Windows Update and that your anti-virus
application is disabled and all other running processes are closed prior to
going to Windows Update site.

- Your virus definitions are up-to-date and follow-up by running a full
system scan. Do both daily from now on.
