Re-installed Windows

I re-installed Windows XP Home Edition. I used the option that does not
format the hard drive. Once the installation was complete, I checked to see
if my data had survived. It had. After a reboot and some configuration, I
then lost most of my data. Some is still there, but the bulk of it is
missing. I susupect that it maybe a security issue with profiles, but even
logging in as administrator does not help. Any suggestions.
 
Did you use the same user name for both installations? What are the
extensions of files are you missing?
