I have XP Home installed on my smaller hard drive and it is activated. I now
want to install it on my main hard drive instead and then format the smaller
one to use it for backing-up files.
When I come to activate XP again surely it will not accept my code as I have
already used it. What do I have to do to activate this new install?

Thanks for your attention and any help you can give me.

You will not have a problem. It takes more then just a HD
change to stop the activation process. Even if you do
have problems you will be provided with a 1-800 number to
take care of it. Have no worries.

Okay, thanks. I think I will end up having to phone Microsoft and hope
they're open 24 hours because I'll be at my PC only at night. My hardware
hasn't changed, both hard drives were installed during the first activation.
I am assuming that you can only enter your code once as it's supposed to be
unique.

Thanks again.

Your product ID is yours to use as many times as you
like. However, the activation code generated by MS is
unique to your hardware setup.

Greetings --

There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. If it's been more
than 120 days since you last activated that specific Product Key,
you'll most likely be able to activate via the Internet without
problem. If it's been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone
call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
