Random windows explorer crashes

Hi all I have wierd issue.

I had just finished doing a clean install on my computer a while back.

I clicked on a news site to look at it and a whole bunch of things started
downloading to my computer. well i started having problems of course.

so i started running microtrends virus scan since my computer was infected
and cleaned out most of the stuff.

i am running windows xp professional no patches as of yet.

i got avg downloaded and installed and cleaned the machine again removing
everything. although there is an issue with avg and it does something with
the winlogon.exe file and considers it a virus (do not delete it).

in any event windows explorer randomly crashes and restarts itself. i
figured loading service pack 1 would solve the problem however there is an
issue with ndis.sys file and it says that it is in use by another program and
won't install sp1.

is there anything that i can do to fix the problem? i am trying to not
reinstall windows again.

Your computer is so badly infested at this point that you probably
have little choice but to wipe it out and reload Windows XP again.

This time do not repeat do not repeat do not connect the computer to
the Internet unless and until you have:
a- enabled the builtin firewall in Windows XP
or
b- installed Service Pack 2
or
c- have a router with NAT protection in place between the computer and
the Internet connection.

Download the complete Service Pack 2 from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

or order it on CD from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

Note that Service Pack 2 is cumulative and includes everything in
Service Pack 1. There is no need to install Service Pack 1 before
installing Service Pack 2.

Good luck

Yea that is what i figured. I am running a router. I have seen some nasty
things with service pack to and microsoft updates as well. i had good
results from sp1 though which is why i thought i would try it.

ol well that is what i figured i thought i would try to get around it. (am
pretty good about fixing issues like this however i know somethings can't be
fixed) would upgrade to vista if i had the computer to do it.
