Question about Rules and New Mail Notifications

I'm having a problem with messages that are filtered by rules triggering a
new mail alert.

I've got a rule set up so that all arriving messages with certain words in
the subject are moved to another folder, and marked as read.
This works fine, with one exception.

When these messages arrive and are processed according to the rules I've
configured, I still get the new mail envelope in the system tray, and I hear
the new mail sound.
However, I don't get a desktop alert for these messages.


Anyone know how I might fix this?

Which version of outlook are you using?

As far as I am aware, the mail icon is not configurable in versions prior to
2003.
