Why rules and notifications don't work with connector accounts?

While using my hotmail account using microsoft outlook connector I am not
able to recieve any new mail notification or alert, I have tried to create a
rule for the Hotmail Inbox and it is always ignored.
I have a gmail account configured through IMAP and when I get a new mail the
envelope icon appears in system tray, but when I create rules to show a desk
alert it is totally useless, the most I made is to create a new item alert
that works in the gmail account. In the hotmail works when I ask Outlook to
"Execute Rules now..."
But do not works when new mail arrives.
I would like to know what I'm doing wrong.
Thank you very much for your time. I would also like to apologise for my
English and maybe some terms that are poorly translated, but due to my
version is in Spanish I ignore how they exactly are in the english version.

A Connector account will only show an alert when its message store has been
set as the default delivery location in Outlook.
