outlook 2003 and Connector

Connector has faithfully delivered emails to my 2003 Outlook inbox (with the
occassional Connector request for my hotmail address/password) but a few days
ago, it stopped delivering new messages to my inbox. Tried 'repairing'
Connector thru Add/Remove. No luck. Uninstalled/reinstalled Connector. No
luck. Eventually deleted Hotmail account from Outlook and reinstalled
Connector and created new hotmail account. Still no luck. I can see basic
Hotmail folders in Outlook but everything's empty. Here's the detailed
report:

Time: 3/15/2010 4:55:31 PM
Error in Mail
An unknown error was encountered during a synchronization operation with the
service. Some of the items might not have been synchronized.

Connector version is 12.0.6423.1000

I'm XP & I got Hotmail into my 2003 Outlook by just setting up another
Account in Outlook and steering via Rule the emails to a new "Hotmail -
Inbox" Folder. Is it that Vista and/or 07 Outlook prevents you two from
ditching Connector?

A couple of suggestions: one is to "wait a few days." I think
Live/Hotmail/MSN has trouble with their servers from time to time and they
usually clear it up in a day or two. The second suggestion is to try the
Outlook Connector 14 beta.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Good to know that I'm not alone in this
because I've come up empty handed with web searches for solutions. Rod your
reply was very interesting and I looked up my recent updates and sure enough,
they were there. I have to admit that I'm reluctant to start deleting updates
so I think I'll take the 'wait and see' approach that Brian recommends. I
tried the POP route but quickly found that it doesn't create a separate
Hotmail inbox but rather delivers all messages into the default Outlook Inbox
(this doesn't work for me since that inbox is committed to my professional
email).

I hope others will keep this post going since it's been 6 days since this
problem started and still no resolution.

Thanks again.

FWIW, my wife's XP machine running Outlook 2002 - which doesn't require
Connector - is running Hotmail just fine. No glitches. But then again, hers
runs POP and her default Inbox/account is Hotmail so it's kept pretty simple.

I looked up the beta Connector (v.14) and from what I can read, it looks
like it applies to those who are running the 2010 Outlook beta. Not for me; I
don't enjoy the bleeding edge of technology.

You could use rules to move incoming POPped Hotmail to its own folder.

I'd try the beta 14 connector.

I gave the beta 14 version a try. Deleted previous Connector, removed Hotmail
account from Outlook, downloaded v.14 Connector, ran it, re-created Hotmail
account in Outlook. Send/receive was very quick so I assumed it downloaded
nothing. Tried to open Hotmail folder, here's message I received:

Set of folders could not be opened
This error usually appears if the OST or PST file you are using is:
Unavailable
Protected with file permissions
On a share on a server and the network is down
Corrupt
To correct this problem, store the OST or PST file on the local computer.
You may also want to run the scanost.exe and scanpst.exe tools to verify
file integrity.
More information about this error message online:

Any thoughts? Should I run the .exe stuff suggested?

What bothers me in this description is the order you did these things and the
reference to "deleted" instead of "uninstalled". I would have removed the
account from Outlook forst, closed Outlook, uninstalled (not deleted) the old
Outlook Connector, installed the new one, started Outlook, then added the
account using the Outlook Connector menu in Outlook.

Try things in that order. What happens?
