Question about non-windows RDP client

B

Bertrand

Hi

We are running today 200 W2k pro PC with XP TSE CLIENT

We have testing DOS RDP client products. It seems to work fine (that was
just a little test)

What are , as your opinion, the avantages & disavantages to use a
non-windows RDP client (DOS - LINUX) ?

thanks

It's cheaper than purchasing an OS that supports a Microsoft RDP client, and way less expensinve than Citrix. I think the going rate for Claudio's DOS RDP Client is about $50, and linux client are free from RDesktop.or

Check here for the different non-MSFT RDP clients, and other free TS downloads

depends on your server....with W2k server and 2k Pro clients you don't have
to buy licenses and can make your PC a terminal using the 5.2 client by
renaming explorer.exe. I'm not following you 100% but I don't see that you
have to buy a client if you are running a 2000 shop.

Today, we have 200 Pc's running W2K, W98, W95
These PC's are 30% new (P4 2.4Ghz) and 70% "old" (PII/PIII/Celeron
sometimes slow with W2K...)

We have paid W2K OS and Win9X OS + TSE client License
This system demands to keep OS updated(tech people spends lot of time to
install/manage this)

As we have to work now with Terminal Server, we don't need windows OS on PC.
we can have thin client (best TCO than windows)
so we are looking for new RDP client system as LINRDP (F.Boottm Desktop
Edition) or others(which one??)
