Hey,

Turned PC off for the first time in many weeks last night, turned it back on this morning and got into Windows before Asus Probe had a major fit and warned me to shut the power off because the PSU was 'Back Spinning' the RPM gauges were actually showing the fan going backwards on the PSU which i can confirm by a quick hand over the rear vent trick.

It was spinning at 1000RPM then suddenly stopped and went -5000RPM which prompted me to shut the power off, is my PSU dead or what?

Thanks in advance guys.

PSU Make - Antec
PSU Modem - TruePower 400W

Regards,

Chris

No i don't have a spare kicking about Mucks :(

Although do you reckon it's faulty?

Or would it be safe to turn back on to experiment..?

I'd say remove my Graphics card and memory, then power it on. If it blows up, buy a new one - KGB's selling a case and PSU for £45.

If it works, it was just having a funny moment.

Why would i want to remove components?

I want the PC to turn on and work, but instead the PSU fans are randomly stopping and starting and even spinning in reverse...

You should take the graphics card and memory out just incase the PSU blows something, you still got a graphics card and a stick of ram to look at, and give you memorys of your beloved computer.

No, I don't like the sounds of that ... to stop and go in reverse means something is getting a reverse current ... don't want that to happen on the MB level.

Get a 'spare' off somebody then test out your PSU out of the case. Either way, I would not use it for now.

Exactly what was running through my mind Mucks.

I'll get a new PSU courier'd from somewhere.

Trying to find a sub 55quid PSU now as i wouldn't say im 'flooded' with cash.... so i'll have to take it easy on a PSU, nothing expensive.

I'd go with a hiper then, always rated highly by review sites, some nice looking ones out there.

The Akasa PSU's will do you nicely - quite cheap, quiet as a mouse, and look good. Supports ATX 2.0 aswell for when you upgrade

Well my system is actually turned on now, so i'm giving it an hour to chill.

I think that may of been the problem, the systems very slow and it was extremely cold in here this morning as central heating wasn't on.

Was about 8c in my room.

And the Fans are Temp Controlled :S

Maybe a glitch there but it's running fine at the moment.
