PST File incompatible

We've just recently exported users email's to pst files using an
WindowsXP-Office 2003 computer and set mail profiles in outlook for each user
that we wanted to export the mail into a pst file. We did this because our
email server needed maintenance ( and a new domain was created). We
successfuly exported the pst files for all users and then went back to each
user and created a new outlook profile and add the personal folder service to
each users profile. When we pointed at the pst file to use for the personal
folder it was successful in all 2003, 2002 users. When we tried to do the
same for the 2000, 98, 97 outlook users we get a message that the pst file is
an incompatible file. How do we correct this or import it into the 2000, 98,
97 outlooks? We tried the inbox repair tool and that seems to make OL 2000,
98, 97 think that they are recovered pst files and still does not allow us to
import from them.

Any thoughts....

If you exported them you created an Outlook 2003 pst-file which is not
compatible with previous versions of Outlook. Follow instructions below to
create an Outlook 97-2002 compatible pst-file;

Just curious; why didn't you use exmerge from the Exchange Resource Kit
instead?

And, to pile on, why are you using .pst files with Exchange? A huge waste
of resources.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, Roady [MVP] asked:

Alright, but still getting stuff to a pst-file would have been much eassier
if you used exmerge. I really don't want to think about exporting all
mailboxes from our domain by hand :-S
