Project 1..Runtime error

I had to reinstall Windows XP Pro, and now when I restart or start up my
system I get a error message prior to the icons on the desktop are
displayed, that says, Runtime error, Invalid Procedure call or argument.
Also at the same time, a pop up shows up with some stupid advertisement at
the same time everytime. I've tried to disable my NIC, to see what would
happen at start up but then my system doesn't even boot all way up when
disabled. I've tried a search on this and found lots of solutins but none of
them worked. In the top of the error message box, "Project 1" shows up.

Run a spyware-cleaner program (such as Ad-Aware).

You can also use msconfig to disable programs running at startup:

Nothing worked after trying numerous suggestions so I just reinstalled
Windows after doing a good back up. I am now up and running with no
error messages at all. I might never know what caused the problem but
thanks.
