Program won't run in normal window.

Hello:

I have one application that refuses to display itself in a normal
window. This just started this evening, when I had several
overlapping windows open simultaneously. Now, whenever I open this
program, either from the start menu of from its shortcut on the
desktop, it just disappears! The program shows in the taskbar and the
restore function is available, but when I click on it, it just stays
minimized. If I set the shortcut to open it maximized, it will start
maximized, but when I hit the restore symbol in the upper right hand
corner, it just disappears again! It's like it's set for "always on
bottom", if you take my meaning.

I'm tearing my hair out here. I even de-installed and re-installed
the program, to no avail. Anybody ever heard of this behavior?

Thanks!

It may have some corrupted settings stored on your computer, which
uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't remove. When you uninstall it, also
remove the relevant folder in "Program Files" and also any related folder in
the "Application Data" folders
eg at
C:\Documents and Settings\**Your username**\Application Data

Also check within the program for any relevant settings (eg via Tools >
Options or Edit > Preferences)

Otherwise it could be an incompatible program which is crashing.

Hi Jon:

Thanks for responding. I think you're right about the corrupted
settings. I just wish I knew where to look for them. I've been
running the program on this PC for quite some time with great
success, so I doubt that it's a compatibility issue.

I also tried to find some answers using Google and the MS Knowledge
Base, but came up with nothing.

Thanks again;

Hi Windom

Programs likeFfilemon and Regmon from SysInternals can help you to see which
files / portions of the registry a particular program is accessing (Options
Filter / Highlight > Include + name of the executable).

http://www.sysinternals.com/SysinternalsSiteMap.html

which can help to identify where settings are stored.

Other than that, might also be advisable to consider factors "external" to
the program itself, eg by running some virus / malware / spyware scans
