Open folder in "Normal" Window

I use Windows Explorer to open a folder. It opens maximized. I select
the middel button in the upper-right corner to make it "normal" (less
than maximized). Windows cannot remember this. When I immediately open
the folder again, it is again maximized.

How can I get Explorer to open the folder so that it does not fill my
desktop? I already have "Remember each folder's view settings" checked.

Note this is a problem whether I double-click on an actual folder or on
a shortcut to a folder. The shortcut properties all say "Normal window"
for "Run".

Hi David,

Try holding the <shift> key, or alternately the <ctrl> key, when closing the
Window.

Nope. Neither of those worked. I tried them both when selecting the X
button in the upper-right corner and when selecting [File > Close] on
the menu bar.
