Forcing a program to open non-maximized

J

Jeff

I am working in XP SP2 and have a program (Quicken Willmaker Plus 2008)
that when started, opens maximized, so that it covers other open
programs on the desktop. There is no option I can find to change this
default behavior. Even if I close the program in non-maximized form,
when I re-start it, it opens maximized.

Of course, once opened, I can change it out of maximized, but I was
wondering if Windows had a way to force a program to start
non-maximized. Is there a way?

Thanks.

If you right click a shortcut, you have an option to change the launch
from Minimized to Normal to Maximized. Does this do any good? It
has worked for me to launch minimized but I have also found that some
programs do not accept that setting. Remember it has to be done on a
shortcut!

Unfortunately it does not work for this program. It was set for "normal
window", but even when I changed it to minimized, it still opened
maximized. So it is obviously not accepted by the program.

Try this:
Resize the window to your liking (only one instance of the window should be
open).
Press down the Control key... then click the Close button (top right of the
window, red x)
Open the program again, it should remember the last size it was open.

Thanks Rey.

This is one stubborn program! I just noticed that though I can switch
between maximized and non-maximized, even when not maximized, it will
not allow me to resize the window to a different non-maximized size. The
double arrows appear but will not work to resize the window. I have
never seen that before! So, unfortunately your trick also did not work
either - but it's a good one to remember, thanks.

The windows must be hard coded into the program. What a nuisance, but
not the end of the world.

Have you tried the alt-tab concept. Hold Alt and hit tab to switch
tasks. It works on a game I have but of course you have to have
another task open so you have a choice of tasks to switch between.

Hi Big Al

I am not sure I understand. I am trying to get this program to open in
non-maximized form when I first open it. Seems like this program is
wired not to do otherwise and I will have to live with it and just
manually unmaximize it after it opens.
