Program opening problems.

When I click on certain programs(norton anti-virus)being
one ,the hour glass appears as if the program is opening
but then nothing opens.

This is symptomatic of virus infection by one of the viruses that breaks
av software. Try scanning with Norton in Safe Mode. If that doesn't
work, then download Stinger from McAfee here:

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Stinger is a standalone small av tool (it doesn't need to be installed
and it looks for about 30 of the most common viruses). Run it in Safe
Mode.
