Processing AOL Mail through IMAP account in Outlook

I am wondering if anyone has run into the following problem -

If I get an email that has been forwarded once before it gets to my AOL address that I check with Outlook I have to go through 2 attachments, if I get an email that has been forwarded twice before it gets to me I have to go through 3 attachments, etc. In every case I get an email from an AOL member that has been forwarded the attachment is a file of the format .msg (which is probably Outlook format). If I check the same email from the AOL web site or the AOL program’s own email interface it will display properly. If I get an email that has been forwarded to me from someone with a non-AOL address I don’t have this problem.

I would like to be able to view these emails using the Outlook IMAP account in the same manner as I would view them in either AOL Web Mail or the AOL program itself (not having to go through multiple attachments)

Thanks..

I think this is an AOL thing. Check with their support.

Actually it has to do with Outlook not displaying MIME enclosures in
an intelligent manner.

Were this Outlook Express, I'd suggest the only real workaround: view
the message source. I assume Outlook has a similar capability.

When I get messages with forwards from AOL users they're always attachments.
In any version of Outlook I've used. Doesn't happen with any other
senders....it's a known fact that AOL doesn't play nice with others or
adhere to Internet standards for mail, so I'm inclined to put the
responsibility on their shoulders. :)

MIME enclosure of messages is, IMO, the better way to do it. The
recipient has greater control over the message content (examples: the
ability to reply more easily to the original message, header
visibility, archival). Many email packages, including Microsoft's own
Entourage on the Mac, have the ability to forward messages as
attachments.

Outlook Express and Outlook are in the minority for not handling these
attachments in an intelligent manner. It's unfortunate that they also
have the largest market share. It's my hope that future versions will
be improved in this respect.

It's an outdated claim that AOL does not adhere to Internet standards
when it comes to email. Although there are still a few things that it
should do better (SMTP rejections and multi-attachment handling, for
example).
