Problems with Windows Update and the error!

Hello. I've tried to solve the error ''General host process for Win32
service'' . . ..
These are the instructions that i got from John a few days ago.

''First it would be good to prevent the "Automatic Update" service from
running and see your machine working properly. Aftewards you can
troubleshoot while the svchost.exe (Service Host) which 'hosts' the Automatic
Update service along with other crucial services that you see failing.

Do this by following Method 2 documented in ths article.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927385

Be sure to manually download the updates as well.

If Method 2 doesn't prevent the svchost.exe application error then do the
following to prevent the AUtomatic Update service from starting.

Set the Automatic Updates to Manual

start / Right Click My Computer / Click Manage
Expand Services and Applications
Double Click Services
Sort by Name and find Automatic Updates and double click it
Set the Start type to Disabled
Click OK

Reboot and confirm your machine isn't experiencing the svchost.exe
application error and manually update your computer.

Now follow the Steps 1 and 2 in the above mentioned article.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927385

Test the operation before resorting to Step 3 which basically cleans out
WIndows Update.''

I'm stuck here::
''Be sure to manually download the updates as well.''

and here:
''Reboot and confirm your machine isn't experiencing the svchost.exe
application error and manually update your computer.''

The problem is that the update website doesn't seem to find any updates, so
how do i update then? the green bar that shows that it's looking for new
updates doesn't go away, it just keeps searching.. but no results.

The second problem is that how do i ''manually update'' my pc after doing
this:
''...find Automatic Updates and double click it
Set the Start type to Disabled''
After that i can't get to search for new updates at all, you see.

I haven't had any luck with this problem yet... Have i done something wrong?
I don't receive the error when i turn off automatic updates by setting the
start type to disabled, but then i won't be able to receive updates to my
computer. :/
I need more help.

thank you,
DaLipton

The 'start menu/all programs/Windows Update' link takes you to the site that
lets you install needed updates.
