problems with Windows Live messenger

I have recently purchased a new PC with Vista installed. Most things going
well but Windows live messenger will not work.
First problem was that it wouldn't recognise my Id with a yahoo email
address. This ID works on other PC's I use (XP) Error message 8004882d
So I signed up again for a live ID with a hotmail account. Now the error
just says " its not working properly, searching for a solution and then shuts
it down and says it will notify when a solution is avaiable".
Most frustrating - does anyone have a solution for this?

I'm having the same problem. It will let me sign in just for a few seconds
then freeze and do it's searching for a solution thing. Your not on your
own!!!!

I am also having the same problem, also occurs with MS Word, MS Excel and
some times with Explorer. Very frustrating and I cant find a solution. Any
ideas would be great.

Thankyou, thankyou, I have just done the same. To hell with Windows Live
Messenger. Got sick of uninstalling and reinstalling, only to have it load
then "close down". Have now gone back to MSN Messenger. Was not sure if it
would work with Vista but no problems. Forget Windows Live Messenger I say.

Thanks Flash! I uninstalled Live messenger and installed MSN v 7.5 something.
I can at least get it to work with the hotmail account I set up trying to get
LM to work. Still hoping I can get it to work with my yahoo account - me
thinks this is a sneaky attempt to steal people away from yahoo.

Oh...I am still using Windows Live Messenger....just not the latest version!

The latest version gave me all kinds of problems...so uninstalled it and put
on a slightly older version of Windows Live Messenger.

That did the trick....now I don't have any problems with it.

what Flash meant by that is to use windows live messenger version 8 instead
of the latest version 8.1 It will work but not to the perfection as run in
windows xp.
