I received an Email with an attachment .pps

I downloaded Microsoft Power Point 2003 together with Ppviewer.

I am getting the following message error:

"The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.

"Create an association in the Folder Option Control Panel.

I do not know how to do it.

Please help me.

Not sure I am answering your question, but .ppt is the extension for
PowerPoint.

Can you tell us what software you use to read email? Is it Outlook Express? OE
is not the same as Outlook.

When you say that you downloaded Microsoft Power Point 2003, do you mean the
PowerPoint 2003 Viewer, or did you download the trial version of Microsoft
PowerPoint 2003? The latter would be a very larger file (228MB)

I you are using Outlook Express and the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer, you will need to
save your email attachment to your hard drive and open it from there, rather
than opening it from the email.

What Sonia said but also.....

Have you actually "installed / setup" the downloaded viewer?

==============================================================================

Dear Sonia,

I downloaded two free programs from Microsoft:

Power Point 2003
Ppviewer

My Email is Outlook Express
OS Windows XP Home SP2
Dell Dimension Computer 2350

I followed your instructions and still did not work.

I saved that Email in "My Documents".

For your information, I also have problems with "System Restore".

I went to Start, Help and Support, System Restore.

Then, after it was rebooted, I got the following message:

"SYSTEM RESTORE"
"Restoration Incomplete
"Your computer cannot be restored.

Perhaps the two problems are related....

Please let me hear from you.

Best Wishes,

Roberto

The file that you need to download and install is the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer.
You can find it at http://tinyurl.com/nmze. Remember to install it. Then save
the email file attachment to your hard drive. Open the Viewer that you just
installed (pptview.exe) and go to File > Open and locate the presentation file
on your hard drive and select it.

When you have made certain types of changes to your system since the last system
checkpoint, System Restore will give you the message that you describe. It is a
good idea to take a checkpoint before you install new software. That way if you
immediately notice problems and can't correct them, you can do a System Restore
and the effects of the install will be removed. But if you try to make system
changes on your own to correct your problem, it will often render the checkpoint
unusable for restoring.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the Critical
Update or Service Pack 1 for Office 2003 as soon as possible. From
PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for Updates".]

[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PowerPoint
that you just created (you can save, but not open)? -
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329820]

Hello,

This is a known problem with PowerPoint Viewer 2003 on Windows XP SP-2
(Service Pack 2).

Testing has come up with the following workaround.

1) Install PowerPoint Viewer 97 to the same folder as PowerPoint Viewer
2003.
2) Rename the respective executables for the two viewers as follows:
2a) Rename PowerPoint Viewer 97 executable to something other than
"pptview.exe" or "ppview32.exe"
2b) Rename PowerPoint Viewer 2003 executable "ppview32.exe"

This will "trick" Outlook Express into using PowerPoint Viewer 2003
(instead of PowerPoint Viewer 97) to open attachments.

You can get PowerPoint Viewer 97 from:
