PowerPoint does not work

I received am Email with an attachment with the extension .pps

I downloaded PowerPoint 2003 with the Ppviewer.

When I tried to open the .pps I got the following message:

"The file does not have a program associated with it for performing
this action. Create an association in the Folder Options Control
Panel".

Besides that, I cannot even open "PowerPoint.

My OS Windows XP Home SP2.

Also, I have a problem with the "System Restore". It is not working. I
cannot restore it.
