Can you be a bit more specific:

What version of PowerPoint are you using?
What happens when you open the file (e.g., blank screen, first slide, etc.)?
Does it show the first slide but not advance to the next slide?
If so, does it simply not happen automatically but can be advanced manually
(e.g. clicking the mouse or hitting the space bar)?
Does the sound play at all?
Does it work if you save it as a .ppt file but not as a .pps?
Is it opening in the Viewer or in the regular PowerPoint application?
If you delete the music, does work as you expect?

Remember that we can't look over your shoulder, and "does not play the show"
can mean a lot of things.

In addition to David's questions, how are you opening the file? A PPS opens
in slide show view when you double-click on it. But if you open PPT and use
File | Open and navigate to the PPS file, it opens in editing view. You'd
have to hit F5 or the slide show button to begin the slide show from that
point.
