changed .ppt to .pps, but won't open to slide show

I received a PowerPoint presentation saved with a file extension of .ppt. I
wanted to change it to a slide show, so when it is opened, it automatically
opens as a slide show. So, I set th timings and renamed it with the .pps
extension. However, every time I try to open the file, it doesn't
automatically open the slide show. What do I need to do?

Unless I misunderstood what you said, " re-naming " it won't do. You have to
SAVE it as pps.
Right click on the ppt, click New.
Office button ( top left ) > Save AS > Save as type, click the pointer >
scroll to and choose PowerPoint 97-2003 Show (* pps ) > Save

Almost T42,

If you rename the file's extension, PowerPoint will open it as a show, but
only in versions prior to 2007. Of course saving it as a PPS does the same
thing, no difference.

Ranann,
You must be able to see the file extensions (windows display option) then
change the extension from PPT to PPS, but only in versions prior to 2007.
If you can not see the file extensions and add ".PPS" to then end of the
presentation name, you end up with a real filename of "MyShow.PPS.PPT" that
displays a name of "MyShow.PPS"

If the file displays the full extensions, and the PPS still opens in edit
mode, you may have broken associations. This is how windows knows what to
do with the file. If this is the case, post back and we'll point you to the
right answers.
