Problems with my PC playing games

Hello all,

I have an alienware media centre pc with XP SP2 and just of late I am not
able to play games on it as I was before. I haven't play any games on the pc
in over a week and in between this I had completed XP updates to which there
were 13. I update regularly BTW. Every time I insert the Game CD the
machine starts the game with the relevant main menu. Then after clicking on
play etc the PC gives me the blue screen of death (as I call it) and reboots.
This action does not happen with any other software e.g Office runs
perfectly.

Urgent help required as my son is also bugging me to play his games and can't.

Regards

First disable the automatic rebooting by going to Control Panel and then
open System>Advanced>Startup and Recovery>Settings and under System
Failure uncheck "Automatically Restart".

Next carefully write down the Stop Error you will get on the blue
screen. You can research it here:

http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm

If you want additional help here, then post back with the Stop Error.
Refer to the link above to see what details of the Stop Error to include
in your post.

This might help:

Run DXDiag and see if it complains of uncertified drivers; try lowering
graphics hardware acceleration, etc.. Also look at the computer
manufacturer site and the graphics card manufacturer site for different
drivers. Try upgrades, reference drivers, and drivers for other model
cards till you find one that works.

All of the updates this month except for the "windows defender/onecare"
update were
for workstations (an office enviorment with limited permissions) which I
don't believe you have. Did you really need them?
