Problems with ICS over wireless (using router).

Justin

I have successfully set up a wireless network between two
XP computers. My problem is that I have a cable modem
(Motorolla SB4100) for broadband internet. However the
wireless router (NETGEAR DG834G) supports only a DSL
connection.

How do I get my internet connection to work accross the
network?

Is there a device that converts a coaxial broadband cable
into a DSL cable?

Is it possible to connect my modem to my router in another way?

Any help very much appreciated.
Please e-mail me @

I've replied by E-mail, as you requested, and in the news group. If

I'm afraid that the DG834G won't work for you, Justin -- it has a
built-in ADSL modem, and it's for use with ADSL only. It can only
connect to a telephone line, not to a cable modem.

You need a wireless router with an Ethernet connection, such as the
Netgear WGR614.

Thanks for your help Steve.
I was wondering if there was any way to get the internet
through the wireless by setting up ICS?

I've managed it ... just about... but it logs after about
20 mins on my guest computer. Any ideas?

Thanks again.

The NETGEAR DG834G is both a DSL Modem and Router. Cable
Modems and DSL Modems have two different methods of
communication, so there is no way to convert one to the
other. Your best bet is to just buy a new router, not a
modem/router combo, and hook the WAN jack of the router
up to your cable modem ethernet jack. That's the problem
with the all-in-one units like combo
modems/routers/accesspoints, if you change one thing you
have to replace the entire piece of equipment. I'm sure
someone else could use your NETGEAR router though, so
throw that on ebay and get some of your money back.
