Not able to connect Internet via router.
I can access to internet when I connect an Ethernet cable between my
computer and the DSL modem (Asus ADSL router), without any problem. However
no way to access to internet when I connect the same computer’s Ethernet
cable to LinkSys wireless-G Broadband Router and Router to the DSL modem
with another Ethernet cable. I tried many procedures but no hope. Any help
will be appreciated.
Baba,
What's the model number of the Asus router? If this is truly a combined modem /
router, are you running it in bridge mode (ie disable the routing functions)
when you connect the Linksys router?
When the computer is hooked to the Linksys router, does it have connection with
the router? Can you ping the router? Are you connecting the computer Ethernet
or wireless?
Are you using a tested, straight-thru cable to connect the modem to the router?
What type of DSL service do you have? Is the router WAN connection configured
for that service?
If you have PPPoE service, is the router configured with the account and
password? If you have DHCP service, will the router do MAC address spoofing?
For DHCP service:
1) With the computer connected to the modem, and online, open a command prompt
window (Start - Run - "cmd") and enter "ipconfig /release".
2) Power down the modem, router, and computer.
3) Connect modem to router to computer.
4) Power up the modem, wait until it's lights are stable.
5) Power up the router, wait until it's lights are stable.
6) Power up the computer, and connect to the router.
