No cable or router detected!

Hello.
I've been trying to set up a Netgear DG834G wireless modem/router on an
Acer Aspire 8000XP; motherboard=Gigabyte GA7VKMLE. OS=full retail XP
Pro, not the OEM one.
Using the Netgear setup from the supplied CD, the modem/router finds
the Internet OK and registers the connection to the PC. Then the setup
program reports:-"No cable or router detected" :(
There is no LAN entry in Network Connections. I have installed the
driver listed for the LAN chip for this motherboard; I presume there is
actually a LAN card installed also? (Probably a stupid question...)
Driver installed to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers . Still no LAN entry
in Network Adapters in Device Manager.

Please help!

John Marsh.

Thanks Doug. I'm now working on the BIOS password, which was set
before the PC was bought. No luck so far with typical
Phoenix-AwardBIOS words, so if Acer can't help, I'll try a CMOS cracker
app.
