problems with cdrw, dvd & floppy drives

mike

W2K SP4

I'm having trouble with my CD-RW, DVD-RW & floppy drives

CD-RW on scsi
DVD-RW on ide

All drives checked on other w2k machines & ok

Same problems with a brand new DVD-RW drive.

When I insert a disc in any drive, my Windows explorer looks as if
there's no disc in the drive at all. clicking on the drive gives the
message :- please insert disc in drive X

The cd & dvd will play audio discs, but no data, original discs or
otherwise.

However, if I start w2k with a disc in any of the drives, that drive
works perfectly until I eject & reinsert the disc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

An update,

I checked event logs & found a service started for something I could not
remember seeing before:- Creative Service for CDROM Access

Path to exe file C:\WINNT\System32\CTsvcCDA.exe

this is one of the files creative playcenter uses.

checking from computer management, services, stopping the service &
setting startup type to manual, seems to have cured the problem.

I will investigate further & report any findings
