I've got a new dell optiplex gx 280. It shipped with XP but we installed the
corporate w2k load. now "my computer" sees 2 generic compact disc drives
instead of one dvd-rom and one dvd-rw. how can I fix that?

thanks,

Karen

Karen,

You'll need to get the specific drivers from dell and install them. Log
into dell support and use the service tag number on the machine. That will
get you the specific drivers you need.

Ryan,

I thought the same thing you did. But according to Dell and to the
manufacturer, there are no specific drivers. The folks at dell sent me the
original system disk and it contains no drivers for either optical drive.
I've reinstalled the chipset. same result.

FWIW you will need Windows 2000 drivers, as WIN2K doesn't know about
DVD. IF the "drivers" the "manufacturer?" uses/provides won't support
Win2K then it's pretty tough to use those unsupported features.
