Problem with Terminal Services/Fast User Switching

I've never had a problem with it before, but for some reason the user
switching just stopped working. I've looked through similar discussions and
managed to fix it so I could use windows+L to get to the Welcome page (thank
you Ronaldo), but it won't let me log anyone else in.

When I look on the services page my 'Terminal Services' and 'Fast User
Switching' are set to 'automatic' but it won't let me 'start' either of them-
I'm getting errors 1068 and 1083 (and was getting 1079 before, but that
changed to 1068 for some reason).

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Logging off to switch users is different from 'locking' the system. Locking
is done with Winkey L, but only the admin group can unlock it. Try using the
switching by going to Start/"Log off".
If that is failing, one posibility is that your system has been setup to use
VPN (Virtual Private Networking) to connect to some Domain.
Another is that the file 'Winlogon.exe' is damaged. You can run MSCONFIG.exe
and use the "Expand File" button to extract a new copy of winlogon.exe.

Thanks for getting back to me.
Yeah, I meant I couldn't switch users at all (using start > log off >
switch)- didn't explain it very well. It will take me to the welcome page but
if I try to log someone else in (other than the account that is already open)
it just flashes and takes me back to the welcome screen.

I ran msconfig.exe, but I'm not sure where to extract the new copy of
winlogon.exe from? Sorry, I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to doing
things with XP.

When you click the Expand File button, it lets you Browse to the
windows/System32 folder, and choose winlogon.exe. It will then find your SP2
install files location, and replace your /system32 copy with a good one.
