Problem with restarting after downloading XP critical upgrades

I went to microsoft.com to download the critical upgrades
to avoid any problems with worms, viruses, etc. I had not
been having any problems. I am running Windows XP home
edition.

The downloads went without incident. I restarted the
computer when directed and got the error message:

winlogon.exe -- Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point AssocIsDangerous could not be
located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll

I pushed OK and then got:

the logon user interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load.
contact your system administrator ro replace the DLL or
restore the original DLL.

It then just allows me to restart...which puts me into the
same loop.

Help!!

Sounds like something went wrong. If it were me, I
would boot the PC into Safe Mode and uninstall the update
and see if you can reboot ok after that. Then you might
try the update again or not???
