Missing DLL on startup.........

P

Pisses me off

In the process of installing SP1 on my HP computer last evening , I
got JAMMED in the butt by Microsoft>
Apparently they are aware of the SP1 doing shit to computers yet
haven't addressed it as of yet. In the mean time I have been checking
tech boards and actually not getting anything that works to solve the
problem.

When I turn on the computer , I get the following error screen and
message:

WINLOGON.EXE ENTRY POINT NOT FOUND
The procedure entry point "associsdangerous" could not be located
in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.DLL

And next I get:
The logon userinterface DLL msgina.dll failed.
Replace or Reload DLL.

I downloaded WinXP Emergency Boot Disks , and have a WinXP CD-ROM.

I cannot do anything from the recovery console.

I have been tld that this is a virus and also may be the way the SP1
rewrote a dll file.

Any Suggestions?????

WINLOGON.EXE ENTRY POINT NOT FOUND
The procedure entry point "associsdangerous" could not be located

This particular refrence is usually from a bad SP1 install/burn, period.
Thus needing a repair install:

Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q315341

The normal reason and fix (which you can't do at this time) for the
msgina.dll:

The msgina.dll (Graphical Identification and Authentication dynamic-link
library) should be listed in C:\Windows\System32 - Application extention.

This can happen if you installed PCA, VPN Cisco Client, etc. Normally
removing any of the above, the msgina.dll is replaced.

Check here for gina.dll, ginamsi.dll, or CSwgina.dll if either is listed,
remove it, reboot.

Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\WinLogon.
In the right pane, remove the entry for (XX)Gina.DLL.
