Problem with Printer installation.

I've got a question about a printer that I am attempting to install with
Windows XP. The printer newsgroups have about one response every day.
That's why I am posting here rather than elsewhere.

I am trying to install an HP Laserjet 1300. I should comment that I have
installed the same printer many times before with no problem. Now when I
get towards the end of the installation, and it tells me to turn on the
printer power, I do so and it can't find the "Power On". I've waited up to
5 minutes, still no Power.

I've got two other installations of Windows XP on my system. One doesn"t
have the pinter installed, the other did have it installed. The one that
didn't have it installed behaved the same way when I tried to install it.
The one that did have it intalled behaved perfectly when I tried to use it.
I then unistalled it and immediately tried to reinstall it. Same problem!

I've got a second Inkjet printer. An HP 6540. This printer has always had
a similar problem on the
first time it was installed. It couldn't find the power. However on the
second time it was installed everything went successfully. So every time I
installed it I just attempted to install it twice.

Sounds like I've got a problem with my computer, interacting with a bug in
the software. Does anyone know what I can do to avoid the problem?

Thanks for the suggestion, but moving the USB connections arround does
nothing!
