Problem with HP printer

A

Allan Matthews

After hooking up my HP 4p laserjet printer to my new
computer with Windows XP Home Edition I keep getting
unrequested pages printing out (2 or 3 an hour) with the
following in the top left corner:
%-12345X@PJL
@PJL USTATUS TIMED 30
Nothing else appears on the page.

Also when I print a text page, regardless of the program,
I get blocks of garbage type appearing.

Please help me

When the computer is starting, enter the BIOS setup. Navigate to the setting
for the port the printer is using (usually LPT1) and change the setting to
SPP, standard parallel port, Bi-directional port or similar but _not ECP,
EPP or ECP&EPP. Windows should install appropriate support files. At least
part of the problem should be solved.

Let us know.

Given what you found, leaving it as it was the logical action.

Alas, I am totally puzzled especially by the seemingly non-commanded
printing. is this computer on a network?
