Problem with Chapter Numbers in Page Numbering

I have a document divided into chapters with page numbering in the "chapter#.page#" format. All of the numbering works fine except for one page in which the chapter # advances early, although the page # is OK. Specifically, the numbering in Chapter 8 goes from 8.12 to 8.13 to 9.14, then Chapter 9 begins with 9.1. I can't figure out how to change the 9.14 to 8.14 without affecting the other pages, and it's driving me crazy! Please help! Thank you.

How are you controlling the start of each chapter? If you've done it by separating your chapters with Isert|Break, Section Break Next Page, you just need to adjust the location of one of your Section Breaks. Be sure to watch out for the Same as Previous button on the Header and Footer toolbar as well--you may need to deactivate
