Have tried right clicking on the drive. I will check IBM's site and see what I can find. I don't think it will fix it however if there is something available. As I mentioned before, when you shut the computer down it's as if a process ends and allows the drive to eject.

Have you tried going to IBM's site to see if there is a driver update for the
CD-Rom or possibly a BIOS update?
Also, there should be a small hole in the front of your CD-ROM drive. You
can unfold a paper clip and stick it into the hole. With some light pressure
the drive will be ejected manually. However, this should not be a permanent
solution.
You could also try going to My computer, right-clicking on your CD-ROM drive
(usually D: drive) and selecting "Eject" from the menu that appeared when you
right-clicked on the drive.
