Having 2 troubles - CDRom drive for DELL and HP psc 2210xi all-in-

Hello,
I currently am running XP on a DELL pc and accidentally hit the eject button
for the cd drive. now it wants to 'safely remove hardware' and I am not
able to use the cd rom and can't seem to find where to 'add new hardware'.
It is an 'HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N-(D:). The device does show up in Device
Manager but won't run a DVD or CD.

With the printer, since my cd rom won't work, I was trying to update and
reinstall my printer (HP Director was not working properly) and now I can't
get the file 'setupsw.msi' located on my pc and I can't seem to get the
'windows install' window to go away. I actually need to fix the cd rom so I
can use my cd that came with my printer. I did verify that the file is on
the disk through a different pc.

Please help!
Thank you,
Cecelala

No, this is the small Dell pc that only has usb ports and an internal plug in
cd rom.

Normally "selecting" Eject with a CD/DVD will cause the media (disc) to
be ejected (tray extends). If you click eject for the drive does the
tray/drawer open? What message do you receive if you double click the CD
drive in Windows Explorer?

I did not click 'eject' I accidentally clicked the eject button that ejects
the complete drive not the drive tray. it actually removes the drive
directly from the cpu itself. if I go 'start' - 'explore' - 'D:\' drive -
there is no message that comes up and nothing happens.

What happens if you shut down the machine, remove the drive and restart the
machine without it? Shut down and reinstall the drive and restart. Windows
should "find the new hardware" and reinstall the drive.

You said the drive is visible in Device Manager, expand the "DVD/CD ROM
Drives" entry. Right click on the drive entry. on the "general" tab, is the
device enabled?

I'd suggest clicking Start, Help and Support, Pick a task, Undo changes
to your computer with System Restore.
