Install HP PSC 1200 Printer?

T

Tony n MI

I am trying to install a HP PSC 1200 series All-in-One
Printer on my PC. Windows XP Home, USB with HP PSC 1200
Version 2.1.0 CD. When I plug into the USB port, WindowsXP
ideintifes that new Hardware is connected.
However, when Windows displays the Found New Hardware
Wizard it identifies this as a HP 1200. I proceed with auto
install, and then get: CANNOT INSTALL THIS HARDWARE> WIZARD
CAN"T FIND SOFTWARE.' I have loaded the HP CD with the
drives. I even tell the Wizard to look at the CD Reader
which has the HP CD in it. Then I see: GET HELP WITH YO:UR
HARDWARE DEVICE. Then WINDOWS CAN"T FIND DEVICE
INFORMATION.

I have tried to install the Printer manually using ADD
PRINTER. It does add the printer, but when I print, It goes
through all the motions, but does not print anything.

I have checked the HP site and that does not help me. I
have shut down and tried that too.

Any suggestions?? Thank you, for any help you may provide
me.

Physically disconnect the printer's USB connection, uninstall the HP
software and delete the printer icon in Printers and Faxes. Next, go
to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter. Select "Normal
Startup", apply and reboot.

Visit http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/eng/support.html and download
the latest drivers for the PSC-1200. Follow the instructions exactly
which call for installing the software before attaching the printer to
the computer and turning it on. You'll be prompted to attach the printer
and turn it on after the software and drivers are installed.

Thank you for your help. I tried all of those steps before
and then I just tried them all over again. No Luck. I do
not understand why WindowsXP identifes the addition of the
new hardware, then cannot find the drivers even when they
are loaded first before you connect the hardware. I even
tried two separate USBs, cables, etc. I have been playing
with this for 6 hours and now am past the point of trying
anything else. I will give up and try a different
manufacture. Never had this problem with my other printers,
Lexmark. Maybe it is HP's install program. Thanks again to
you all.

Did the docs say to install the software first? Or did you just plug and
pray?
