cdrom drive not working

Hi All,

My cdrom drive doesn't show up in windows explorer.
It can't be accessed even when I try to update the driver
using the windows xp cd.. and mention there to look in
cd-rom drives for the driver.
Catch 22 I suppose.

I have tried
Reboot into safe-mode, uninstall device, reboot.
Didn't work.

*It does boot into a bootable rescue disk though.*

The CDROM is a: Teac CD-224E-BA and it shows under
DVD/CD-ROM drives in the control panel with a yellow !bang!

Any thing else I can try?
Thanks!

Did you just install this drive, or did it suddenly fail? Did you
change any cabling inside your computer? Did you check that jumper
settings are correct? Are the cables loose? Could be many things.
